Production was scheduled to begin in the coming weeks in Atlanta, but is not expected to begin until the strike ends.
Love at first sight is just the latest production affected by the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. The union representing around 11,500 writers from film, TV and more went on strike earlier this month in a dispute over wages in an era increasingly dominated by streaming. The WGA is also looking to regulate the use of generative AI in writers’ rooms.
Production on Blade would also have been impacted
Next to Love at first sight, several other Marvel productions were affected by the strike. Earlier this month The Hollywood Reporter noted that the Blade the reboot starring Mahershala Ali was the first major film to see production halted due to the strike (it was due for release in September 2024, although it’s unclear if that will change), and there have also been Marvel TV Shows Disruption Reports Daredevil: Born Again And amazing man.
Marvel is far from the only studio to see its projects impacted by outstanding screenwriters. Deadline notes that TV shows were hit harder than movies early in the strike, with late-night talk shows being among the most high-profile early casualties. Projects impacted include yellow jackets, stranger things, Breakup, hacks, and to come Game Of Thrones spin off The Hedge Knight.
Love at first sight was supposed to be released in July 2024, although it’s unclear if that will change due to the production delay. It stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbor as Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.
